In the heart of Alto Minho, and an integral part of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, the Land of Valdevez and its people have their roots set in ancient times. Touched by the poetic Lima river, crossed in the middle and from one end to the other by the idyllic Vez river that gives it its name, watered, in many directions, by the bubbling and crystalline creeks, it is still fancily moulded by nature, either by the striking outlines of its mountains (Soajo and Peneda) and breathtaking views, or by rolling hillsides where wine ripens and vast plains where bread grows. All over the municipality abound old manor houses, medieval towers and bridges, temples, festivities and a gastronomy without comparison, especially the Cachena meat (beef) certified with Protected Designation of Origin, accompanied with "Tarrestre” Bean; desserts like “Charutos dos Arcos” (egg-yolk and icing suggar pastry), honey cake from Soajo and Arcos candies. The other Arcos talents are in the hands of those who produce traditional wood and stone artefacts, as weel weavery.
