Barcelos is a land of impressive historical-patrimonial riches, presenting a vast archaeological and architectural legacy. Of splendid ethnography and considered the capital of handicraft, Barcelos managed to turn the image of the "Galo de Barcelos" ("Barcelos Rooster") into a symbol of Portuguese identity. Check out these and other expressions of popular art in the Handicraft Centre and the traditionally workshops. “Rojões”, “papas de Sarrabulho” (traditional pork dish), cod and the rooster made in different ways (especially roast in the oven) are just some of the dishes that are part of the delicious typical menu of the city. Barcelos is also a "living museum" of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage Route, as it is the point of passage of the pilgrimage trail in Portugal. Its lively folklore and passionate religious traditions, as well as gorgeous manor houses, are great invitations for a visit.
