It’s entirely fair the municipality of Fafe being called the “Minho’s Drawing Room” since here lies what the region has best to offer to its visitors. In historical and architectonical terms, it is famous for an impressive group of fine constructions dating from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, referred to as "brazilian” architecture. Its riches lie still in a dense and ample landscape and its beautiful scenery reflects all the green splendour of the Minho region. Fafe has villages with fantastic landscapes, where the mountain intersects with water lines. This is an example of the Queimadela Dam, one of the ex-libris of the municipality. Fafe is also one of the most important stages of the famous races and automotive skills, such as Rally de Portugal, which draws thousands of fans. In the local cuisine the “Fafe style” roasted veal deserves attention as well as the sponge cake, the egg yolk dessert, accompanied by one of the local green wines. Also highlight in the crafts for the beautiful articles in straw and embroideries of sieves, an art that is determined to stay alive.
