Serra da Cabreira

Considered the ex-libris of the county, it is Indispensable to discover the Serra da Cabreira in order to enjoy unique moments, indulge the landscape beauty and contact with the several faunal and floristic species of the region. Alive and plural, this mountain can be covered on foot or by mountain bike thanks to the pedestrian trails and roadbooks that visitors can acquire at the Vieira do Minho Tourism Office. Climbing up to its summit, the Talefe, at 1262 m altitude, the visitor can enjoy the stunning landscape and the lofty panoramic views of the mountain villages, reservoirs and the Serra do Gerês. Granite and water are the main natural resources of this mountain, being granite used in the construction of several defensive, domestic and road structures, such as bridges, houses of vernacular architecture, the Fojos dos Lobos, as well as the huts that served as shelter for shepherds while they were grazing cattle. Serra da Cabreira still preserves an important core of archaeological remains, such as prehistoric shelters, megalithic tombs, tumuli, rock carvings which vouch for the antiquity of human occupation in this county.
