Barca do Lago Very close to the Cávado River's mouth, its riverbed widens and sinks into stagnant and calm waters, taking on the outline of a gigantic lake and creating an idyllic scenery of rare beauty. The legend holds that, one day, local fishermen lifted their nets and were surprised by an image of Our Lady, which was immediately baptised as Our Lady of the Lake. On the right side of the North margin, that it is constantly sought out by visitors and inhabitants, an inn was once built. Today it no longer exists but, in the past, the inn welcomed, free of charge, pilgrims headed to Santiago de Compostela and who crossed the Cávado River at no cost in a "boat for god." |
