The City

Right in the middle of the city and in perfect harmony with its historical and contemporary features, is the pleasant "living room", the beautiful and quiet Manuel Faria Garden honouring this local benefactor. This colourful and refreshing space is an invitation to rest, from where you can observe the local movement, not forgetting the Vizela Romana statue, symbolizing the Roman origin of the Vizela Baths, a joint work of the Painter José Pereira da Costa and the sculptor João Barata Feyo. Two steps away is the Republic Square. Leisure area for the local people, it’s also a place of choice for the main cultural activities of the municipality. A place of great historical importance, the ancient Roman baths were discovered here in 1787, a legacy that will be forever signalled thanks to the inscription placed on the ground of the Square and the monument erected in honour of the God of the Roman baths, close to the hot spring. Very close is the Jorge Antunes Foundation, a cultural space and a meeting point for generations, and the Vizela Forum an interesting commercial space to do some shopping or enjoy a meal.
