Paço de Giela Classified as a National Monument, the Giela Palace (“Paço de Giela”) is a remarkable example of medieval and modern civil architecture and is closely linked to the formation of Arcos de Valdevez. The tower was built in the mid-14th century. At the end of the XV century, beginning of the XVI, was built the area of residence, which underwent later changes and entered into decline and abandonment from the nineteenth century. In 1999 the property was acquired by the local authority, and after a rehabilitation project, is now open to the public and functioning as a museum. |
