Summer Pastures

There are many summer pastures dispersed throughout the municipality’s highest points where, and in accordance with old community habits, the shepherds lived with their flocks during the hottest months, in order to protect the winter pastures, essential for feeding the animals during the rest of the year. Today, these summer pastures are no longer seasonal areas and on some of those plateaus, such as the Summer Pastures of Aveleira (in the parish of Gave), of Mourim (in Parada do Monte), of Rodeiro or of Portos (in Castro Laboreiro), you’ll find small and traditional houses, transformed into pleasant rural tourism accommodations.
