Leisure Areas and Pedestrian Routes

With a beautiful thermal area as its main point of interest, Monção offers a variety of leisure spaces that are hugged by nature’s green and by the freshness of the Minho River. In addition to this, the municipallity is crossed by the rivers Mouro and Gadanha, making available to residents and visitors several riverside areas refreshing and conductive to rest and leisure. In the valley of the Gadanha, are the fluvial areas of mazedo and Pinheiros. In the Mouro, you can start at the Mouro bridge, then follow the Senhor do Rio (Lord of yhe River) in Segude, go thorugh the Curto bridge in Podame and finnish in the fluvial area of Tangil, near the bridge over the river Minho. Those who love to walk and hike have three pedestrian courses properly signalled that will lead you to unforgettable places. With several degrees of difficulty and of ecological, landscape, historical and cultural interest, you’ll have to try them all:  Caminho dos Mortos (“The Road of the Dead”, in Merufe), Chã da Carreira (in Tangil), Santo António de Vale de Poldros (in Riba de Mouro and Tangil), Carvalheira de Abedim (in Abedim) and Cova da Moura (in Cambeses and Longos Vales).
