Natural Heritage

Of all the environmental patrimony that characterizes the mountains of Fafe so well, its picturesque towns, among others, definitely stand out – Mós, Bastelo, Pontido, Luilhas, Casal de Estime – that, stretched throughout valleys, agricultural fields, grazing areas and oak groves, with their typical farm houses, are a faithful picture of life on the mountain. Situated only a few kilometres from the city of Fafe, on an affluent of the Vizela river, the Queimadela Dam was inaugurated in 1993 and its main function is to provide the municipality’s water supply. Nevertheless, the lagoon’s 11 hectares bay are an important valence in the area of leisure, offering a river beach, parks of snacks, making this a very popular place for those who enjoy nature’s company. With excellent conditions, it is the ideal spot for practicing non-polluting nautical sports, fishing, pedestrian trails, slide, rappel, paragliding or even camp out, seeing as a camping and caravanning park exists on site, ready to receive all visitors. A bet on the sustainability of tourism, the sensible exploration of resources and striving towards the increase of the population’s quality of life, is the sensation that remains in those who visit these places. We suggest, just to fulfil curiosity or to take advantage of some relaxing time, a stop in this unique setting.
