N. Sra. d’Agonia Pilgrimage
A centenary festival, the devotion to N.Sra. d’Agonia is intimately tied to the Viana fishing community and dates back to 1750 when only a religious procession existed. Alto Minho’s largest festival brings to the “princess of Lima”, every year in August and during several days, thousands of people. The city is filled with sound and colour, with traditional costumes, folklore groups, drums, “gigantones”, fireworks and the procession leading to the sea, in what is the municipality’s most important cultural and religious happening.
