Founded at the end of the 14th century and the object of careful restoration, it became the residence of the sculptor José Rodrigues and today houses a few hundred pieces (sculpture, drawings and paintings) of the artist

Unique in Portugal, it includes the Public Aquarium, the Otter Aquarium, Museum of Fisheries (dedicated to fishing ethnography), Thematic Library, River Lodge and laboratories. It intends to be a vehicle for raising awareness of issues involving rivers and estuaries and promoting direct contact with the Minho river
