Legend of the Rooster

The most famous legend to emerge from the rich popular imagination of Barcelos is certainly the Legend of the Rooster. It is said that a condemned Galician proved his innocence at the time of being hanged, making the cock, which was to serve as a dinner for the judge, to gain life and to sing. It is the largest link in Portugal to the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage Routes.
