Festival of the Crosses

One of Portugal’s most famous secular celebrations, the official program of the Festival of the Crosses starts always late April and ends on May 3, as main attractions, the majestic “Invenção da Santa Cruz” procession where almost every one of the crosses, representative of the 89 municipality’s parishes, can be seen, as well as the Battle of Flowers, and the much appreciated carpets of natural flowers, on display in the Sr. da Cruz Church. It is the first great annual pilgrimage of Minho and one of the largest in the country.
